Radio gave musicians the opportunity to hear different styles of music from around the country and further afield. Weekly broadcasts had a big influence on the repertoire of an area. Radio shows like Din Joe’s ‘Take the Floor’ lasted off and on for almost 25 years. Scottish accordionist Jimmy Shand was a regular on Irish radio, playing Scottish Country dance music and his signature tune ‘The bluebell polka’.
