South Kerry Championship 2004

Composed by Padraig O Connell

air ‘Johnny Jump Up’

Come South Kerry people and list to my song

Its about Dromid Pearses, I won’t delay long

Our champion boys they did fill us with glee,

When they landed Jack Murphy back home in Cillín Liath

In 46 we were founded by men of the best

Now all I can wish them is eternal rest

A long time awaiting, t’was almost three score

Till that day in September 2004

Chorus

Oh Never again, oh never, oh never again

If we live to be a hundred or a hundred and ten

We’ll nare see the likes of those true gallant men

Na Piarsaigh, Na Piarsaigh, Na Piarsaigh again.

Our first outing was gallant and gave us a thrill,

Going down on record, we beat Waterville

And to our advantage we had them at home

Six points was the difference, this pierced to the bone.

The semi-final was held down in Con Keating Park

Skellig Rangers were hoping that they’d make their mark

A fine game of football, of skill and of speed

When the ref blew full time we were 5 points on the lead.

Chorus

In that great final, the Mary’s we met.

They were reigning championships you must not forget

In the torrential rain, how the crowds they did roar

It was 9 points to 7 at Lough Currane Shore

There was joy and excitement as people shook hands

A well deserved victory as you’ll understand

Those lads names I’ll give you, like calling the roll

I’ll be starting with Timmy, as he was in goal.

Chorus

Our back line was solid and they played divine

There was Donal and Donie and the young Aidan Shine

Padraig our captain and Cian you’d admire

And Denis our trainer, sure he’s a live wire.

Our midfield star Colm, he did himself proud

And there at his side was our own Kieran Moul

With Kevin and Moss no relent for one sec

Next years Kerry captain will be famous Dec.

Chorus

Our full forward line sure the backs they did burn

Aidan and Fergal and our minor John Curran

Our outstanding subs they were tops in their field

Trevers, Leary and Tomas, now they didn’t yield.

Thirty-four of a panel, twas a grand sight to see

Down in the two valleys, it showed unity

Commitment to training, your faith you did seal

So now lads be proud that you shouldered the wheel.

Chorus

Now to management, sure its them I must thank

The combining of Denis and Padraig and Frank

A close eye they kept while the teams they did score

It made a big difference when Jack came on board.

Now I must I finish and good health to you

Hurrah for Na Piarsaigh, Na Piarsaigh abú

Another year coming, let’s hope we’re alive

We intend to be back in 2005.
